The UAMS South Central Family Medicine Residency Program offers physician residents the opportunity to work with local specialists to provide in-patient medical care and specialty medical services. Formerly known as Area Health Education Center (AHEC), this program offers an outstanding three-year residency training program for family physicians. Residents who have graduated from medical schools across the United States comes to Pine Bluff to receive instruction from UAMS faculty, and to experience clinical training at JRMC. Local specialists serve as consulting faculty and supervise specialty rotations. Residents learn to perform numerous outpatient procedures with a special emphasis on EGDs, colonoscopy and wound care. They also work in the Emergency Department and see patients through the UAMS Family Medical Center, which is located on the JRMC Campus.
UAMS South Central Family Medicine Residency also provides many hours of continuing medical education for physicians and other healthcare professionals, and the Melville Library offers comprehensive library services to the area.
