JRMC Emergency Preparedness Drill

April 11, 2017

On Wednesday, April 12, all JRMC departments will take part in a functional exercise to practice their response to an active shooter emergency.

From approximately 8:30 to 8:40 a.m., the JRMC overhead will announce the drill, and all departments will follow through with the plans and procedures for emergency situations. The drill will last for two minutes, which should be enough time to practice what each department would do if an active shooter were really on campus.

Following the brief employee drill, the Command Staff and City and County Emergency Services will continue to practice making decisions to protect patients, visitors and staff members during a real event. That portion of the drill will end at noon, and in a few weeks, JRMC will receive an evaluation from the company conducting the drill.

It is important for JRMC patients and visitors to understand that this preparedness exercise is not a real-life emergency. Being prepared is important for the protection of hospital staff as well as JRMC patients and visitors in the case of an emergency situation.
