Spiritual and emotional care is as important to the healing process as physical care. Therefore, at JRMC, we ensure that a hospital chaplain is available to patients and their families 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
A chaplain can be reached through the Pastoral Care Department during normal working hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at (870) 541-7167. Chaplains can also be reached through the Operator at any time at (870) 541-7100.
Merritt Chapel, located on the JRMC campus, is also available for prayer and reflection. Local businessman A. R. Merritt and his wife were both seriously injured in an automobile accident, and Mrs. Merritt never fully recovered, spending the remainder of her life in a skilled nursing facility. During a trip to the Soviet Union, Mr. Merritt was deeply affected by the lack of religious freedom, and he wanted to give the community a gift representing religious liberty. Combined with his respect for the medical profession, he decided to give JRMC enough stocks, bonds and cash to build a chapel. Merritt Chapel was dedicated in honor of his wife, with a memorial stone that reads “With humility and thanksgiving, we erect this chapel to the glory of God and for the solace of troubled hearts.”
Merritt Chapel is located on the south end of JRMC’s property, connected to the hospital by a breezeway. If the chapel is locked you may call 541-7269 to request access.
