Spiritual and emotional care is as important to the healing process as physical care. Therefore, at JRMC, we ensure that a hospital chaplain is available to patients and their families 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Chaplains offer pastoral care to patients and/or their family members who request assistance in addressing spiritual concerns. The basic purpose of pastoral care is for spiritual healing through counseling and prayer bringing God’s peace to those in need.

JRMC Campus Chapel
Merritt Chapel, located on the JRMC campus, is also available for prayer and reflection. Local businessman A. R. Merritt and his wife were both seriously injured in an automobile accident, and Mrs. Merritt never fully recovered, spending the remainder of her life in a skilled nursing facility. During a trip to the Soviet Union, Mr. Merritt was deeply affected by the lack of religious freedom, and he wanted to give the community a gift representing religious liberty. Combined with his respect for the medical profession, he decided to give JRMC enough stocks, bonds and cash to build a chapel. Merritt Chapel was dedicated in honor of his wife, with a memorial stone that reads “With humility and thanksgiving, we erect this chapel to the glory of God and for the solace of troubled hearts.”
