A Birth to Remember: Four Generations United at Jefferson Regional
Posted on 05.09.25 in
On a bright, joyous day at Jefferson Regional, a new life entered the world, bringing with it a story of love, legacy, and family. Ruth Ann Nutt gave birth to her first child, a beautiful baby girl named Margaret Ann, in a delivery that could only be described as extraordinary. For Ruth Ann, what made this moment truly special wasn’t just the birth of her daughter, but the hands that delivered her.

A Family Affair in the Delivery Room
Margaret Ann’s delivery was a family affair like no other. Ruth Ann’s mother, Dr. Amy Cahill, a long-time OB/GYN at Jefferson Regional, and her sister, Dr. Emma Johnson, who is currently in her second year of OB/GYN residency at UAMS, were the ones who helped bring Margaret Ann into the world.
Reflecting on this deeply personal experience, Ruth Ann shared, “I knew they were just as excited as me because they cared for me and for my baby more than any other delivery they had ever done, and I felt safe knowing they were so experienced. I wasn’t nervous about delivery at all because I knew I had the best care! It was so special because I could hear the excitement in Emma’s voice as she was counting while I was pushing and I knew we were about to meet our girl.”

A Legacy Rooted in Jefferson Regional
For this family, Jefferson Regional is more than just a hospital; it’s part of their history. Ruth Ann’s grandparents, Jerrel and Jesse Boast, were both born at Jefferson Regional, then called Davis Hospital, and Jerrel dedicated years of service to the hospital, even serving as board president. Continuing this tradition, Ruth Ann’s mother, Dr. Amy Cahill, was also born at Jefferson Regional before going on to deliver countless babies in her 23-plus years of practice in Pine Bluff.
This multi-generational connection to the hospital underscores the lasting impact that Jefferson Regional has had on the family and the community. Baby Margaret Ann is the latest chapter in this enduring story of life and care, representing the fourth generation tied to the hospital.

A Moment Captured in Time
To commemorate this generational milestone, a heartwarming photo was taken of all five women—from Ruth Ann’s grandmother, Jesse Boast, to Ruth Ann herself, her mother, Dr. Amy Cahill, her sister, Dr. Emma Johnson, and baby Margaret Ann. The image is a vibrant testament to the bond between these generations of women and the legacy that ties them to Jefferson Regional.

More Than a Birth, A Celebration of Family
Margaret Ann’s birth wasn’t just a celebration of new life but also a tribute to the enduring legacy of love, care, and family woven through generations at Jefferson Regional. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best care comes from the people who love you most.
To Ruth Ann, her husband Fletcher Nutt, and the generations of women who have chosen Jefferson Regional as the place for life’s defining moments, this story will forever be treasured as one of connection, community, and an unbreakable family bond.
Welcome to the world, Margaret Ann, and welcome to a family with a remarkable story to share!
