New Technological Advancements:
Low Dose CT for Lung Cancer Screening and Endobronchial Ultrasound
We would like to inform our providers and patients about the new advancements that are being made with the new Low Dose CT. The LDCT uses lower than usual doses of radiation to make a series of very detailed pictures of areas inside the body. It uses an x-ray machine that scans the body in a spiral path and takes pictures with a computer that is linked to the x-ray machine. This allows for earlier detection, which is key to diagnosis and treatment. Although there are some formal guidelines that must be met, JRMC is very excited to be able to offer this test to our community.
The Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) is minimally invasive and uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of anatomical structures within the body. There are two imaging modalities for EBUS including radial (360-degree image) and Curvilinear (60-degree image). This technique allows physicians to perform a transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) through a curvilinear EBUS bronchoscope. The procedure is commonly used for obtaining a diagnosis for lung conditions and staging of lung cancer. For more information, contact our clinic or talk to your primary care physician.
