Mary Simon’s Journey to Healing with Jefferson Regional Cancer Center

At Jefferson Regional Jones-Dunklin Cancer Center, every patient’s story matters – and today, we’re thrilled to share Mary Simon’s inspiring path to recovery. A dairy farmer, a devoted wife, a proud mother of seven, and a grandmother to thirteen, Mary’s resilience and positivity have touched everyone here.

A Difficult Diagnosis
Living in Conway, Arkansas, Mary Simon’s life was already full, running Simon Brothers Dairy alongside her husband, Mike, and being surrounded by her growing family. But in the fall of 2024, during what Mary described as a particularly challenging season, her life took an unexpected turn.
It began with a lung CT that revealed a concerning spot in her breast. What followed was a whirlwind of tests, including a diagnostic mammogram and a biopsy in December. That month proved especially tough for Mary, as she also battled AFib and the flu during the same period. When the results came back malignant, Mary knew her life was about to change.
Following surgery in February 2025 to remove the cancer, Mary turned to her son, Dr. Tim Simon, for advice on her next steps. Dr. Simon’s trust in Jefferson Regional, and the care provided by Dr. Campbell and Dr. Hameed at our Jones-Dunklin Cancer Center, brought Mary to us. Despite the hour-long commute each way, Mary knew she was in the right place.
Expert Care Close to Home
The team at Jefferson Regional Jones-Dunklin Cancer Center provided Mary with comprehensive post-surgery care, starting with chemotherapy administered by Dr. Campbell. This was followed by four weeks of radiation therapy under the expert guidance of Dr. Hameed.

Mary fondly recalls how our team turned what could have been an overwhelming experience into something manageable, even pleasant. “I really felt like the doctors and staff at the cancer center made a situation that I considered bad into something as pleasant as it could be,” Mary shared.
From the front desk to the treatment room, Mary felt valued and cared for. She noted how the staff were always smiling, happy, and respectful of her time, often getting her out of treatments early. When unexpected situations came up, the team was there to adjust her schedule without hesitation.
Even her husband, Mike, made connections! During her treatments, Mike spent time in the lobby, chatting with other family members and making friends along the way. The sense of community and support that surrounds the cancer center became an integral part of their experience.
Confidence in Recovery
Today, Mary has completed her treatments and continues with oral medication. She feels confident that her cancer has been eradicated and is grateful for the care she received at Jefferson Regional. Looking back, she’s reminded of how much her experience was shaped by the dedicated and compassionate team at the center.
Her story is a powerful reminder of why so many families trust Jefferson Regional. With expert care, warmth, and a commitment to making every patient’s experience as positive as possible, we are proud to be a part of Mary’s healing journey.
